How did you end up using the exchange you use currently ?

I remember few years ago when one of my friends introduced me to crypto few years ago, do you know this guy introduced me because of a invite to earn contest he was participating in on an exchange. Whenever I remember it amuses me because i am more invested in crypto now than he is because he ventured into another industry.

Well, thank God for that day, if not i wouldn’t have been interested in crypto not to talk of investing in it. I’ve heard different stories about this, what’s yours ?

My first exchange is our local exchange. I got my $30 worth of Bitcoin that time from a faucet, and I need to find a way to exchange it for our local money.
An online friend introduced me to this local exchange. I really didn't want to sign up because I didn't want to do a KYC verification, but after he mentioned that there is a reward for every signup and I can also pay for bills for using their platform, I proceeded to sign up and until now I still enjoy the many perks and features.
Because of this local exchange, I learned to trade and trust other exchanges.

I still use binance although regulators in Europe are trying to make it harder and harder by the day.

The other day Binance wouldn't allow me to deposit via BTC. Later I found out Revolut doesn't accept crypto deposits directly from binance on many occasions.

Without the ability to fund with FIAT it becomes much harder to actually use an exchange. I'll end up having to use Kraken as a European later. I don't think the landscape will improve much if at all with all these regulation. The few that remain will probably consolidate more in the future.

I use a couple of exchanges depending on what exactly I want to do at the time and I discovered most through research. Some of them are really popular in the industry (like binance, when it was still active in my country) and some are less popular Dexes and swap exchanges.

When I first got into crypto I was introduced to maybe a handful of exchanges, but I don't use any of them now due to regulatory issues and them turning out to be no good.

N.b, I wouldn't recommend anyone to use an exchange I use. They have to decide based on their purpose of needing that service.

For the most part, through word of mouth. Though, as oppose to your experience, the idea did not come from a friend but through online communities like bitcointalk, some subreddits, etc.

A further look into the platforms was needed of course, but the word of mouth was a start. We still need to determine if the exchange in question fit our needs plus sockpuppets are a thing, among other things. A further look is needed to assess the overall.

You are lucky if you invested a big amount this season, thanks to your friend, and I am glad you listened, unlike my friends. If you started last February, then you are already making a profit this Q2.

I used the local exchange that accepts Bitcoin and other crypto years ago, but since you are talking about the current exchange, well, I use CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap to look for the list of top-ranking exchanges. No one refers me, so I do some research first and check them out on the forum and the Reddit community about exchanges.
We are different in how we started in the Crypto world, but I started learning crypto since I think around 2014 or 2015, joining the faucets rewards and some cloud mining and investment sites. I saw something similar to mine here, they end up losing money first in cloud mining and investment sites, same as what happened to me before I entered here on the forum and learn more about crypto.

That’s great..$30 worth of Bitcoin then would have appreciate into a huge amount now but i know alot of us were not expecting Bitcoin to be as big as it is today. I like the fact that exchanges give rewards for new signups, i also signed up with the second exchange i use because of the rewards, i even heard recently that Bitget is rewarding BGB to those who refer their friends. I’ve also noticed that the promo these exchanges offer has made a lot of difference because it serves as an encouragement to newbies to come onboard to explore the crypto ecosystem.

Funny how those who made someone interested in something lose interest themselves, I was also intro same way, today my friend isn't trading anymore and he was the one who showed me how to fish instead of giving me fish. Exchange invite to earn event is a nice way of spreading awareness and mass adoption, just like the other day I saw and event where users can get BGB and 1500 USDT for just inviting a friend

It is not that hard or exciting to explain. Everyone uses binance and so do I. (Only for small amounts)

Over the years I used many other crypto exchanges though. Most of them went down sadly. Among all, I think I liked btc-e the most. Most people probably don’t know or care nowadays but that was the OG exchange with the original trollbox.

Poloniex, cryptsy, mtgox, kucoin, bittrex were the other ones I can remember which I used in the past.

I ended up with the last exchange I used because it's the popular alternative with a high P2P volume. Unfortunately, it's centralized and custodial. I had no other option but to open an account there. Convenience, better rates, wider payment options, among others are the reasons. Apart from those, the non-custodial, P2P, KYC-free exchange I previously used shut down. Although it wasn't my go-to exchange every time I had a transaction, especially involving larger amounts, it was a great alternative in terms of privacy.

There are 2 local exchanges that I use among many that exist plus one non-local exchange. That means 3 exchanges that I use depending on what I need.
Between the 2 local exchanges, I did not involve myself in any contests because I only use the exchange according to its function.
By using a local exchange, I can deposit fiat to buy the coins I want and the process is not complicated with non-local exchanges.

Indeed, the contests held by the exchange have attractive prizes, but I do not want to involve myself in order to avoid what I fear.

The current local exchange that I'm using is a direct result of an older popular ^[somewhat] exchange halting its operations a few months back, so I had no choice but to look for an alternative to satisfy my off-ramp & on-ramp needs.
^{- It's worth noting that I had to go over a lot of TOS, PP & FAQ pages and do a lot of cross-checks to minimize the risks (unfortunately, most users tend to ignore these things)!}

I’m a Kucoin user before but later on shift to Binance due to the P2P feature on exchange that offers my local currency. They offer a no transaction fee on P2P that’s why I’m convinced to change exchange.

Right now Binance is banned on my country I still can access it via mobile app. I still use it until now for the same reason that Binance P2P offers much better rate compared to other exchange P2P service.

So far Binance is still the most convenient app to use due to its competitive price offer.
