Short version:
Our organization will pay you $1,000 if you agree to add a Bitcoin donation option next to your PayPal button. We'll even help you set it up.

Long version:
I represent the Bitcoin100 charity fundraiser organization. Our goal is to spread awareness of the benefits of Bitcoin, especially for charities. Using one of our partners BitPay, you can set up a simple PayPal-like donation option that accepts Bitcoins, and through BitPay the money is instantly converted to USD and deposited to your account. The benefits are 0 fees, getting the money the same day, and no issues with fraud or chargebacks (i.e. donations received from stolen credit cards, which get pulled back once the theft is found out).

Our organization consists of 100+ people who have pledged to donate money to any charity organization that adds a Bitcoin donation option to their site. So, in exchange for letting us help you set up the donation option, we will also make the first donation of $1,000.

I don't mind if each these charities receive $1000 worth of BTC from Bitcoin100 funds. However, since one of our goals is good press for the Bitcoin movement in general, perhaps we can encourage them to do a press release.

In regards to the restructuring/rebranding: I vote for sticking with Bitcoin100 and maintaining a roster of at least 100 bitcoiners ready to donate with maybe a minimum donation of the BTC equivalent of $10. Bitcoin100 has been around long enough and has a history of helping charities, even if it's only been limited to a very few. Changing the name would essentially be a reboot and I see no real reason for it; it can't be that difficult to keep the number 100 incorporated somehow into its workings.

Let them know that BitPay doesn't charge transaction fees for charitable organizations, and will convert the coins to cash for them, so all they'll need to do it get a BitPay account and add the bitcoin donation button to their website (which we will gladly help with). Any coins they get will get deposited as plain cash to their bank account, and as soon as we see that they have that set up, we'll send them $1,000 worth of coins. It'll probably be the easiest $1,000 they'll earn.

I was thinking BitPay sounded like a good approach.

I think if I tell them they will receive $1000 for putting up a little HTML, they'll jump on it.  Any way to get them "approved" to join the Bitcoin 100?

Just link to their website where we can see that they have a Bitcoin donation option. That's it.

I certainly understand the sentiment and would love to do the same.  I expect I'd have no problem with pretty much all organisations that would be considered for support.  I would however refuse to donate to organisations such as Monsanto or the RIAA and for this reason alone simply cannot say "I pledge 1 BTC to any charity/organisation which adds a Bitcoin donation option".

Generally, I won't be upset if Bitcoin100 money ends up going to causes I wouldn't usually donate to.  As you noted, such pledged money is much more like a donation to Bitcoin itself.  If a cause comes along that I really do want to donate to (TOR, Free software foundation, archive.org) then I will make a serious donation on top.

I would be dismayed if the Bitcoin100 didn't manage to get 100 new charities to accept Bitcoin.  It would be a great shame for us to only get through 5 or 6 charities before fizzling out due to there being too much caution.  Just my thought though.

In light of the news that charities may be looking at massive chargeback fees due to hackers flooding their donation pages with stolen credit cards ...

maybe the language in any Bitcoin introduction could indicate no risk of chargebacks along w/ irreversability.  "Not being reversable" might not click but a charity who just had to cut a bank a check for thousands of dollars in chargeback fees might suddenly be interested in "chargeback free" donations.

I think the policy is basically nothing political, nothing religious, and more charity than just non-profit. That would exclude any SuperPACs, as well as Monsanto and RIAA. So I wouldn't worry about that.

Very nice idea!  A few people and myself are working on a nonprofit, when it actually gets up and running I was thinking about having a bitcoin donation button on the site.  I have no problem with it, however many people who visit the nonprofit's page might link it to something illegal (as mentioned above) which could do a lot of damage in terms of other donations...something for my group to think about.  Way to go for charity though    I will join in when I get more BTC

I have already been promoting Bitcoin100 (at the nonprofits panel at the conference, and to my 1000+ facebook contacts & will also be releasing the interview we did on Let's Talk Bitcoin). A press release would be totally fine with me too!! What does everyone else think?
