1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I lost 22.22 BTC in 2013 - Lessons, mistakes and balls on: December 04, 2017, 09:10:46 AM
It has nothing to do about being a 20-year old. If something sounds too good to be true, it most probably is. You were naive and the world made you pay for it. At least you learned your (very expensive) lesson.
I agree 100%
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / I lost 22.22 BTC in 2013 - Lessons, mistakes and balls on: December 04, 2017, 08:56:59 AM
I have a confession to make. As much as I'd like to hide this from everybody around me, I want to let it out. Maybe I'll feel a little better.

I lost 22.22 BTC in 2013.

"How?" You may ask. It was mainly due to greed. You see, in 2013, I was a 20-year old. I was fascinated that Bitcoin rose so much so fast and asked my parents to invest some money into them. Told them that it had great promise of growth in the long-term. They agreed, gave me about $5400, and I bought 22.22 BTC.

All was good. The price rose and it fell. It was fun watching price and immediately calculating what the Bitcoins were now worth. It was addictive. I would check the price ever hour or so back then.

A few months later, the value of Bitcoin doubled. Now they were worth about $11k. "Wow," I though. My parents are going to be so happy (we're from a middle class family in India and $11k is a LOT of money).

One day, someone found my phone number on the Localbitcoins website and sent me a text. He said he had a strategy to earn recurring profits through Bitcoin. That a lot of people use it for gambling, and we can use the spread between Bitcoin prices in India and China to make a profit!

"This is getting better." Or so I thought. 2 weeks later, I meet the guy at a restaurant. Talk a little bit about what he plans to do with the money and I decide to send him 10BTC to see what he can do with it. He gave me a post-dated cheque for the equivalent of 10BTC in fiat as a "safety" so I can be sure he wasn't a scammer. Transferred the money, went back home, super happy to make money by investing my Bitcoins!

Later that evening, I get a call from this guy saying he needs more upfront capital to get the ball rolling. I suspected something might be wrong - but I didn't want to loose 10BTC because I couldn't afford some more. BIG FUCKING MISTAKE. I paid him 12.22BTC more and he promised to deliver.

Days went by and I didn't hear from him. I called him up hundreds of times, no answer. I rushed to the bank to cash out the cheque, but it was cancelled. I asked the bank employees for remediation, they asked me to go to the cops. I went to the cops - they said "Bitcoin is illegal, you shouldn't have bought it anyway. But since the cheque bounced, we can try to help you." They didn't do jack shit.

So this is the story of how a naive 20-year-old lost 22.22 BTC - valued at $256718 today. The story clearly talks about my mistakes. It seems obvious now, but back then, I was blinded by the idea of easy profits.

Lessons:
  • Don't trust ANYBODY.
  • The moment you feel something is not right, cut your losses. Don't get in deeper.
  • Don't be greedy. There are no get-rich-quick schemes. Don't fall for them.
  • Don't be naive.
  • Never touch money/investments that aren't your own. It feels 100000x worse.
  • ALWAYS ESCROW.

I'm having to fight through this pain everyday. I feel pathetic. I've lost a lot of courage and morale. I feel extremely lonely. I can't being to understand how people that have lost bigger amounts of money cope with this. If someone here knows, do let me know.

Checking the price of Bitcoin has become super painful. I can literally feel my heart burn every time I see the price go up more. I'm 23 years old now. I don't know if I'll ever be able to earn back the 22.22 BTC. I'm afraid. I feel like I'm falling through an abyss - just falling deeper and deeper.

I can, however, claim that I've got balls. That should be evident from the fact that I didn't suicide yet. Time to time and more often than not, there's a voice inside me that says "You can't do it. You're in over your head." I try to suppress that. I'm trying to make all those Bitcoins back.

Recently (a few days ago), I asked Roger Ver to help. He politely declined. It was really nice of him to reply to my email. I totally understand - he can't verify any of this. And 22.22BTC is not a small sum of money today.

If there's anyone out there that can help, please message me. If not, I would love some support in these dark times (for me). I need some extra courage. I have some inside, I need some more.

Hope you learned something that prevents you from losing money.

Cool idea, but I don't see how it'll work. 0.15 is basically 10+ bucks, so it'll have to be a 1 in 10 chance of losing. That'll also make it pretty easy, and even something like a time based challenge can easily be repeated.

Yes, we'll have to make sure that there is a business here, while trying to provide fun games for users to play. We should also maintain difficulty, as you rightly mentioned. Thank you for your feedback, the points have been noted! Smiley
4  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Would you be interested in a bitcoin betting based gaming platform? on: June 17, 2016, 12:21:11 PM
Besides provably fair game which you must to implement, you need extra ordinary gameplay, rise the reward for attract people to play your project.

Thats a good idea, thanks avatar_kiyoshi!
5  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: New Idea, Opinions Needed on: June 16, 2016, 06:15:32 PM
The coins are totally different from stock, but owners of the coins can participate in company's daily management business and decision making through different channels.

So this is similar to The Dao?
6  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: RedLightBlues.in is looking for donations! on: June 15, 2016, 01:52:14 PM
Yeah you should have done some research and proper planning before posting your idea. The first mistake you've made is by posting here as this is not a crowdfunding site. These days scammers are everywhere and just because of them those who're actually in need of money are suffering. If you guys are legit then you guys should adapt transparency cause only with a website to support your statements, you guys can't even expect a dime from people nowadays. And to be clear, you guys are actually acting like nonprofessionals. So next time better present yourself with a solid plan and all the verifiable infos, so that people can trust you guys and oh almost forgot to mention, obviously on a crowdfunding site. Good luck...
Why would you make a new account to post that ? Are you genuinely a new account or you have personal issues with the OP just like I do ?And by personal I meant the idea is looting people to fulfill their pockets. They come to a random forum and beg for 20BTC,OP can buy herself a nice house in Delhi with that money.Seriously what was she thinking ? Typical Indian scammer scum.

I'm an Indian, and I take offence in your words. First of all, Rs. 9,61,000/- is not enough to buy even a decent 1BHK house in Delhi. So it seems you're knowledge on Delhi real-estate is very outdated. It might have been sufficient a few years ago, but not today.

Don't think of every Indian as a scammer. This redlightblues or whatever seems like a very nice, interesting project. Read the damn articles, take your time before you start shitting your judgement everywhere.

Also, I notice the OP has already admitted to a mistake or misunderstanding about the price or whatever. I think that means something. Besides, just because somebody posted on this forum doesn't mean people will come running with their money. If redlightblues is a scammer, the forum members will find out and do something about it. Let everybody use their own judgement. And seriously, stop being racist.

Since you're 80% through the development process you might just wanna go ahead and launch it to try how practically it works out.You could have asked the same question before implementing initial ideas.

-Such games already exist, have you heard about that game where we tame pigs and shit ,I kinda forgot the name.

-Similar games like scratchcard or Android Satoshi box games are in the market which aren't doing as good.

-How would you ensure provably fair in your gambling gaming platform ?

-Does the games have potential to attract gamblers from dice playing crowd.

-Not the least, check out the website in my signature, they have amazing graphical games which are mobile compatible.

Agreed. But this is something else. Not scratchcard. Not exactly an online casino. But rather, platformer or arcade games similar to those you have on your phone. Like the ones Ketchapp makes.

We'll try our best to prove fairness in the game.

Yes, we believe the game attacks a wide audience. From people that just want to game, to people that gamble.

Your website gives me this: http://imgur.com/Xo0EhHI.
8  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Smart Contracts in Blockchain on: June 14, 2016, 05:09:51 PM

Bitcoin has a limited set of commands it can execute in the blockchain. Smart contracts need more commands to be programmed: that is wat is called a programming language that is Turing complete. Afaik there are no smart contracts on bitcoin blockchain.

I don't really understand you question:
Is it correct that etherum uses the block chain Technology in order to define and executes smart contracts as Bitcoins uses it for Bitcoin exchange?

I doubt that's really what 'turing complete' is. Smiley
9  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Would you be interested in a bitcoin betting based gaming platform? on: June 14, 2016, 05:00:34 PM
The biggest problem I see with this is people feeling they are cheated or the system cheats, etc. This is why gambling sites tend to put a high emphasis on provably fair. You will likely need to do something like this if you have random elements in your game or people will moan.

Haha, a very valid point there. And I guess we could make the system open-source after launch, no problem there. At least the relevant game logic can be open source so the community can check to see that we aren't doing anything mischievous! Thank you for your suggestion! Smiley
10  Bitcoin / Project Development / Would you be interested in a bitcoin betting based gaming platform? on: June 14, 2016, 04:34:57 PM
We're about 80% through building a website that hosts a couple of HTML5 games that can be played and are timed.
Before playing any game, you deposit an amount of 0.015BTC.
You play the game and attempt to complete the objectives (for example: make 100 points in the time limit, etc).
If you do, you are returned your 0.015BTC with a small addition to it, approximately $1 in BTC.
Else, you loose and your money goes to us. Simple.

Does this sound like something you'll play or use?

We're open to suggestions and feedback on the idea. But we think this will be extremely fun!

If it works out, we're planning to go mobile as well.

Thanks for your time.
11  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: AbcBitcoin.com - New Bitcoin Directory on: June 11, 2016, 04:59:33 PM
The site is down for me, can anyone else access it?

I'm able to access it.
12  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: What profitable Bitcoin website would you use and need? Please brainstorm! on: June 10, 2016, 05:33:11 AM
-snip-
What's so creative about the idea ? Faucets and blogs already exits. There are a few blogs which has inbuilt faucets too and moreover how difficult it is to even code a faucet ? I'm sure OP is looking for something which has a business value since he has a team of developers contributing to it.
OK maybe it's not creative but OP asked for brain storm, meaning throwing ideas. And where is yours?

Another simple suggestion, ANGRYBITS Smiley straight rip off angrybirds. Instead of little fluffy birds
you can launch coins. Standard BTC as a red bird, LTC is that blue glass destroyer, DODGE could be the yelow
wood breaker etc. Still not creative but its something. I would play it, scores could be expressed in satoshis
so that 400-500 on average per level could be won.

Thats another very interesting idea. Wow, you're full of ideas! Thanks, now I have a new line of thought! Smiley
13  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin needs to move to POS. Thoughts? on: June 09, 2016, 06:00:22 AM
Bitcoin is what it is largely because of mining. Switching to POS would be disasterous.

That's what I used to think but I'm not so sure now.  What does mining provide that POS wouldn't?

The fact that obtaining a machine capable to mine the currency costs money and isn't accessible to anyone adds value to it in and of itself. Removing this attribute of bitcoin could take away a big part of the economy that has formed around it and cause massive loss of interest.

I disagree.  It is the scarcity of bitcoin that (and the fact that it was the first cryptocurrency) that gives it value. POS would not change that.

I might agree here, the 'value' of something is usually related to the supply and demand of that thing.
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Ubuntu and Bash on Windows 10 on: June 09, 2016, 05:58:38 AM
The has to do with an issue with binding to ports from the Linux Subsystem. Because Bitcoin Core can't bind to the necessary ports, you can't access it over RPC nor will it be able to accept incoming connections. This is a problem with the subsystem itself so you will have to wait for later releases to fix that.

It should, however, be possible to fix programmatically IMHO?
No, it's a problem with the Linux subsystem itself.
No. Its a problem with people thinking every solution to software is to install Linux and Linux tools where they don't belong.

Compile it for Windows or run Linux in a VM but don't poison Windows with Linux hacks.

Lol. Wtf? Who suggested that? Cheesy
15  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: What profitable Bitcoin website would you use and need? Please brainstorm! on: June 09, 2016, 05:56:28 AM
People like to have fun, so I recommend an addictive game where one can actually earn bitcoin. There aren't many popular games that take BTC as a form of payment. I'm thinking of a website that has some ads placed around for revenue and will give players an actual decent amount of BTC for playing.

I think you have something awesome right there. Wow. Very good idea!
16  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: What profitable Bitcoin website would you use and need? Please brainstorm! on: June 09, 2016, 05:55:30 AM
What kind of project you want to create? It's based what? App mobile or PC application?

Need more games which can earn bitcoin by playing with it. For example cs game which can earn bitcoin. I know there are have a cs which can earn hypercoin, but that's altcoin.

Also have an idea about app mobile marketplace.

Either. We have very good PHP and JS full stack devs as well as highly qualified mobile app devs.
This is a very good idea! But the architecture of this system seems a little complicated. It should be possible though, and probably not too difficult.
Whats the idea related to the marketplace?
17  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: What profitable Bitcoin website would you use and need? Please brainstorm! on: June 09, 2016, 05:52:54 AM
I would like to see service where I could trade digital items like: games, information, files etc. with people who don't own cryptocurrency at all.
People without crypto would pay for items with other methods of payment, Paypal, bank transfer, other payment processors etc.

Service would act as a mediator and escrow service between seller and buyer and collect small fee from each transaction.

But I guess  that concept is too hard to implement and manage in the end.

That's a pretty awesome idea. And you're right - it is hard to implement and manage. BUT, I think it is possible with the emerging technology! Will definitely think about this, thanks!
18  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: What profitable Bitcoin website would you use and need? Please brainstorm! on: June 09, 2016, 05:43:49 AM
Hiya nebuzen, you might want to put up a website with some examples of what you've developed with some clients that you've developed for. With cryptocurrency, trust is a big factor, so people who hire you want to be sure there won't be a back door coded in to access admin or wallet features, etc.

You're going to get a lot of people asking for escrow, I'd recommended ognasty's service. I've used him and it's flawless.

Hey cloverme,

Absolutely, would have done that. But I'm not really selling services at the moment. Just trying to brainstorm if there exists any web-application or mobile application that this community would love to have and use, that can be profitable? Smiley

But yes, I'll keep in mind ognasty's escrow service. Cheers!
19  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: What profitable Bitcoin website would you use and need? Please brainstorm! on: June 09, 2016, 05:42:27 AM
So what exactly you're looking for ? Ideas ? Why would anyone share an idea which is lucrative from the business point of view ? Unless you are putting up a bounty for the selected idea or some part of shares in the project it doesn't make sense.I have couple of good ideas, shoot me a PM if you want to take it further, provided I will be seeking an equal equity in the project.Oh I can contribute to the development too!

Because there are no 'lucrative ideas' in reality. You have to implement those ideas to actually make money from them! Smiley
I wont be putting up a bounty for the selected idea - we both can understand how easily this method fails. I get a shit-ton of ideas. Love one. But say I didnt like a single one. Make it, reap profits and never pay a soul. I prefer to be transparent - I wont pay for the idea.
Also, I will obviously NOT give you equal equity for the idea. If you can contribute development, yes, then we can talk about equity splits! Smiley Just please post your ideas here. Don't post the ones that you think are really valuable. But the rest, please post!
20  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: AbcBitcoin.com - New Bitcoin Directory on: June 09, 2016, 05:37:56 AM
Hello!

Me and my friends recently setup a new bitcoin website that lists shops (bars, restaurant, etc.) accepting bitcoin payments and also websites related to bitcoin (blogs, exchanges, news, etc.). We also have a map where visitors can find shops accepting bitcoins nearby.

Visitors can also rate and comment listed businesses/websites. Listing is free of charge, no registration is needed for submitting a link, and no back-link is required. The website is far from finished but we thought it would be interesting to get some feedback at this early stage of development to get some ideas to improve user experience later on.

By the way if you have a business that accepts bitcoins or a bitcoin website/blog, feel free to list it in our directory, again it is totally free Wink

This is the link to our website: AbcBitcoin Directory

Thank you for your help and support!  Cheesy

Larry

Please correct your link. *sigh*
